Also, you say you work in the finance sector? Dallas would probably be better to find a career in that versus Houston, but there should be options for you in the finance departments of the O&G companies in Houston.
I have a friend very pretty that moved to Dallas and mentioned she got little to no attention. Dallas is getting more competitive for women. I went to Dallas and Houston last Winter. Living in Indianapolis I liked the attention I got from women in Dallas and Houston. In the Houston Hotel we stayed at the female attendants flirted with me while I checked in. We didn't stay long but I plan to go back with a close friend who swears by Houston's intricate network of single ladies. He loved to frequent the night life in Houston! Also Houston is Blacker than Dallas yes but careful, that doesn't really mean it's a Black City. Yes you can tell 'We' have economical power there from the BillBoard signs with Black families' faces on it but coming from Memphis it was still not that Black to me. You are also constantly reminded of the Racist Sam Houston, the city's Father, all the time! Maybe find what you want there then move to Memphis in the Burbs. or Nashville. Don't rule out a return to Atlanta. As one poster mentioned go to a dating site and switch your profile to various cities and notice the attention you get. Be open to cities not on your list! You don't have to stay there forever. I live in Indianapolis now for God's sake. You will definitely get attention here as a woman, although theres been a recent influx of Nigerian Women looking to get married here!

However, if you are looking for a vibrant professional dating scene then Houston will be the place to go. Both places offer many nighttime destinations but the nightlife in Houston far outweighs the nightlife in Dallas. There is just generally more going on in Houston all the time. When I lived in Dallas ( 08-2012) it was fun. If OP is really interested in 'dipping their toes in' the TX dating pool, maybe try online dating and contacting people that live in Dallas or Houston to see if there is more of a connection/difference than to people in her existing city? (obviously use caution and never send any money, etc. To said people, lot of scammers out there).

You’re the one who misinterpreted their question as which ones were more “popular,” which isn’t necessarily the same thing. The neighborhoods that Acres named in Houston are far more well known than the historically black neighborhoods in Dallas (which are often mistakenly lumped together as “South Dallas,” while some people might name Oak Cliff) much less Fort Worth. I’ve “heard” of neighborhoods such as Fair Park or Stop six, but that doesn’t make them well-known or popular. Learn the difference before you call yourself trying to school someone. NEXT CALLER!!!
